Things that change after having a baby

Posted by nathan on Nov 28, 2005 in Uncategorized

1. You look at your baby in the mirror instead of yourself.

2. You finally stop to smell the roses, because your baby is in your arms.

3. Where you once believed you were fearless, you now find yourself afraid.

4. You’re less self-involved and more self-motivated.

5. The sacrifices you thought you made to have a child no longer seem like sacrifices.

6. You respect your body … finally. (Hooray for baby-making!)

7. You have stronger opinions and are stronger willed.

8. You find that your baby’s pain feels much worse than your own.

9. You believe once again in the things you believed in as a child.

10. You lose touch with the people in your life that you should have banished years ago.

11. Your heart breaks much more easily.

12. Every day is a surprise.

13. Bodily functions are no longer repulsive.

14. You think before you speak.

15. Your love becomes limitless, a superhuman power.

Gaining Ground

Posted by nathan on Nov 27, 2005 in Uncategorized

Well, if she’s not quite able to get up on her knees, she is still quite
mobile. EJ picks out a spot, an objective and crawls like a little army
guy through the sand. Her bell scrapes a path across the carpet and she
gets where she is going fairly well. It really will just be a matter of
days before she is able to actually crawl. It would be nice if she would
go to sleep already, she is still hanging on to wakefulness now. She’s
just going to have to learn how to fall asleep in her crib.

My first week of school is over and I feel pretty good so far about the
steps I have taken towards completion of this series of challenges. I do
want to warn you that there maybe a change in the way I write as I go
through all of this, as in I may actually learn how to write! The first
class is exactly that, how to write and the other is how to go to
school. As I continue to progress, I will let you know more about this.

Today, I went with Udi to go play some footie in the park with some of
my old squad mates. It looks like we are going to be getting a little
team back together in the spring and right now we are beginning to have
some kick arounds. It was a glorious day for football. Slightly
overcast, and sort of damp ground, but with all the running around and
playing, we stayed nice and warm. No great goal scoring feats or
masterful events happened it was just football next to the cricket
pitch. Ah, yes, Cricket. That’s one for the Wikipedia.

It was a good day, of sorts

Posted by nathan on Nov 27, 2005 in Uncategorized

We had once more a day off because today was Saturday. My friend Kees
and his wife came over for tea. We gave them some baby clothes as they
are expecting in January and talked about our doula and the birth
experience which we went through with Eliza-Jane. Then we bought and
delivered a present to the next door neighbors, and afterwards we went
for a walk to Century 21, which was not a good place for me to go, as I
really do not like crowded retail stores during the holiday season. I am
surprised that I did not scream on anybody for coming too close to EJ and I.

Then at night we put EJ to sleep and I worked a bit on Jack’s website
before calling it a night. Basically, I wanted to remark that the first
week of University is nearly up and I already can sense that it is going
to be some serious work. I am going to enjoy it, but still it’s going to
be some serious work. I will keep you posted to how well I am doing.

Clean Dishes Revelations

Posted by nathan on Nov 25, 2005 in Uncategorized

My daughter is sitting in my lap as I study articles about Globalization and Outsourcing Jobs. She is very happy and quite thrilled with exploring my beard and it’s textures. My mind is on many differnent things today as I navigate through the events. While Steph has gone into the city to meet with a friend, EJ and I cleaned up the house. For some reason, watching me clean is a really fun thing for her to do.

It was when I got to the mountain of dishes that the meditative aspects of housework began to ease it’s way into my mind. While I was there, scrubbing and rising pots and pans, a new truth was revealed to me. Yesterday, was My First Grown-up Thanksgiving. I was the Daddy at the head of the table, I carved the turkey, I served the food (which Steph had so fabulously prepared) and I said the prayer.

Since, the dishes are done and there is always more housework to do and not enough cuddles, Squeaky and I are taking a break and catching up on the quiet time. She usually takes a nap in the early evening, so I am holding her in my lap to chill out while I do some studying for school. If I am good, she will totally fall asleep while I am writing this post. In fact she is really, really close right now. Sssssshhh!

oh yes, there she goes, out like a little lamb.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, we had a great time at home with our friends. Jen and Udi brought their son Ben over, and our firends Jack ( who has the radio show on East Village Radio) and Mark. EJ played very nicely with Ben who is two months old., Shewas so precious, stroking him and touching him without hurting, it’s the first time I have witnessed her putting her hand on something without closing it up and grabbing.

She is really growing and developiong quite alot lately. The dodtor said she is only in the twenty-fifth percentile for height and I think weight she may be in the thirtieth percentile, but I bet that she is pretty far advanced mentally. She is already making noises that have sounds which will developp into words like, “Hi There,” and “Hi Daddy” and “Mama” and just tonight she made a series of sounds that more than likely meant “No thanks Daddy, I have had too much turkey and all the visitors wore me out, but really I do not want to fall asleep yet.”

I think we all got pretty worn out from all the excitement and energy of the day and we will all sleep quite well tonight.

Then as the day went along, I was monitoring the discussions going on in my university class, making some comments so that I can be an active member of the group. I also was getting a lightweight ToDo list manager on the Usiskeklili portion of my array.I finally settled on eMacs, an editor program that can do pretty much everything including coffee!

Doctor oh Doctor

Posted by nathan on Nov 22, 2005 in Uncategorized

Today was the big day. It rained and was windy all morning while Squeaky and I did the grocery shopping. It’s quite a trick to be able to hold an umbrella, push a cart with laundry and carry a baby in the bjorn without havin gyour umbrella toren apart by the gusting winds of a Nor’easterner. It’s is indeed quite a trick but by gosh oh golly we did it. then we carried the groceries home, including the bird for thursday’s festivities.

Later that aftgernoon, we had a family doctor’s visit. Steph was first due to a navigation error that I made in the subway system. Then EJ got the attention of our new doctor. She got some shots and then she went out to the lobby with Mommy and left me with the doctor. I’m certain it’s the first physical I’ve had since I was in the Navy. I got my blood drawen as well as a flu shot. But generally, not nearly as bad as I suspected my visit would be.

Then afterwards we headed over to Steph’s office where due to renevations we were now acquiring an Apple 21″ Studio Monitor for the computer array. It’s GiGantic!! Now, my powermac has a desktop that is split between the built in LCD and this really huge monitor. I am just aching to get the Linux Box and the Mac linked together to share one keyboard and mouse over the network. What do you mean, “Why do you need that?”? I mean I need to be able to do even more things all at once without so much stuff getting lost. I mean come on, just because I am going to college now, does not mean I am going to quit learning more about computer stuff or working on the website. In fact the next episode of the comic is getting done now, I am over halfway through with it. K=Just in time for some more raw footage to be captured over the weekend. Anyways enough out of me for now.

Synergy and such…

Posted by nathan on Nov 22, 2005 in Uncategorized

So I just got a second monitor for my Mac, it’s gigantic and takes up a good portion of the real estate for that corner of the desktop. Now, I have a Linux Box on my Desktop as well. I’d really like to use only one mouse and one keyboard for both computers. i know that Synergy is a program that will allow these networked computers to share a mouse an keyboard. Now do I need ot make special arrangements to account for th emac having two monitors to share that desktop?

While I am here I need to tell you about anemployment agency who has nothing to do with a vioxx attorney nor do they really have anything to do with Pet Tags but what the hey!
