it seems as if this is becoming a bit of a theme for me, as i search for newer and more fluid method of handling my calendars and todos. recently, i shifted my strategy to being more webcentric with these things, and this gives me the comfort that no matter which computer i am using at the moment, i will be able to stay organized and on focus.
all of my events are now being stored on calendars at google, their calendars are in the .ics format which means i can subscribe to them with any of my calendar clients on the various machines which litter our livingroom. (I use Korganizer on linux and Sunbird on OS X.) What does bother me a bit is that neither one of the clients allow me to make additions or changes to the calendar for that i have to open my web browser and navigate to the calendar. there is hope that the google apis can be used and hacked to give me this capacity in the near future, this could be a legitimate itch!
since google calendars does not have the capacity to put todo tasks into them, i have been using another service called rememberthemilk or RTM. The organization behind RTM has a plugin which displays the tasks for today in your google calendar, awesome, plus it’s all in .ics format so my calendar/todo clinets locally can subscribe to them. once again, i do not have the capacity to make changes from within these clients, so it looks like that is the second part of my itch.
i do however, have the capacity to make additions and completions to both these things through YAWS(Yet Another Web Service) called imified this is a service which lets me send an Instant Message to these other services to make changes and completions, so in a round about manner i have a method of using my whole computer to keep me on track, still i want to slim things down and make my workflow very sleek so there will be some scratching at my itches. and if anybody knows how to make the second button on a pen tablet act like the right mouse button, please let me know.

ej is counting money in my lap which promises to make my entry here a touch more difficult, especially as she is being more and more forceful about her space and needing to take it. i am certain that the unstructed nature of her daycare breeds this behavior and i am only mortified in it because it was pointed out by a bright young girl at the new church, or either that girl was a bit of snitch as well. arrgghh, i do not want to think badly about anybody least of all a three year old. certainly, there are greater things for me to devote my brainpower to, such as this new java course, and gettting java set up on my computer to run the examples from the book. i hate to have to debug all the example programs when its something on my machine that isnot set up correctly. going to hve to continue to investigate this matter more throughly. on another note, i am becoming more and more satisfied with my layout for the desktop, less and less stuff is being pushed out onto it, i have removed the sidebars and implimented the tasty menu program, which is very nice, i like it quite a bit especially as it has desktop search built into its functions. now i also have the contacts in my panel as well as the contacts for kopete. i let the addressbook have connections behind the view, and normally do not run that open. i have stopped using kontact as a whole, and am only using the bits that i actually use akregator, kmail and korganizer. now if i could only get korganizer in my system tray then it’d all be golden. i am striving to have very little on my desktop that is not actually part of my work, and am quite happy to let these other apps run in the system tray as daemons. and actually, it would be very cool if korganizer could be set up as part of the system clock that sits on my panel, so that when my mouse hovers over the clock, it pops up and i can look at the events on my calendar and my todos and my journal ( which i still want to be able to click a button and publish directly to one of my blogs) anyways enough of that from me.

yesterday the monitor for our ‘telly’ died. ej stayed at home with me in the morning and made sure that the house got really messy. then she went down for a nap around eleven which was pretty much about the time i was ready to go looking for a placement monitor. so i just looked at stuff on the internet for a while and then we ej woke we got our act together and headed out the door.
it was a big experiment. we went to manhattan without a stroller.
ej walked to the train station and stayed with me on the platform. we even watch a couple trains with the wrong letter on them go by. then our train arrived and we got on.
ej practiced being a straphanger and stood holding one of the handle poles for most of the trip. the rest of the time it was perched in my lap. the crowds of people in the station which we had arrived were overwhelming and scary to a two year old who was being asked to walk under her own power. so daddy carried her up to the street.
after a hour of walking around circuit city and virgin megastore, our little bug was ready to tackle the streets of new york.we eventually ended up in [[washington square park]] were she played in the playground for ages. finally, we ended our trip at a diner sharing aplate of fries, before taking the train back home (she sat in my lap the whole way home.)
we are so lucky.

In celebration of Spring Cleaning Season which opened yesterday with a good overhaul of both the livingroom and the kitchen, I broke out the drill and set into reconfiguring my desk. I am tired of all the spaghetti cables beneath the desk, so I drilled and reran them as well as adding aboard for them to rest upon underneath the desktop. I also mounted the power strip within the deskbox on the underside. This serves two purposes, first I am able to have a neat clean area under the desk and secondly it continues the childproofing that is necessary when there is a toddler pushing two in your dwelling.

we went out to a friend’s house in new jersey on saturday. they had thrown together a game day. we had gone out once before for the same sort of event, which was highly planned and executed with great aplomb, however since then our firends have had a baby. the baby is a beautiful seven month old girl. when we got there on saturday the change was evident.
we ate chips from the bottom of th e bag, or helped ourselves to the fridge. we were basically at home- which we were perfectly happy about. ej enjoyed running about, up the stairs, down the stairs and throwing all the baby’s books and stuffed animals around.
we played as many games as we could and ended up being there quite late at night, so we all just stayed over which led to a little confusion on ej’s part as she woke up in the middle of the night and found herself in a strange place.
we did get to walk about the neighborhood in the morning and ej and i saw a robin so, i will declare it to be spring here in the northeast.

ej can now
- put her shoes and socks on, the right feet even although she still gets her socks on the wrong foot occasionally.
- reach the doorknobs in the house, but not quite open them
- turn on her keyboard and play something neat, sort of expressionistic of her mood, i dig it.
- be very helpful with the housework, like
- helping to sweep
- taking the trash out
- volunteering to clean out the cat box(although we are not ready to hand over that priviledge yet

so i’m feeling pretty blah lately. went to a the doctor to see what th problem was and got a referral, a diagnosis and a prescription. right now the medicine makes me even more lazy and rotten feeling than before but at least i know that it will be clearing up soon. everyone tells me it takes a couple of weeks before it begins to work, so until then i live in a crystal clear but blue funk. doesn’t help my mood any that i really want nothing to do with other people, except for the ones who live with me. there is also a little disconnection between me and any expectations which i had about various different things.
schoolwork is just sort of hanging in there, and any attempts at programming are really tharwted by my degree of intolerance for mistakes and perhaps a decrease in concentration. huh. hadn’t really noticed that until just this moment, guess i’ll have to go and tell the nice professionals that indeed is true.
i’m pretty scared about the future at the momentand quite terrified of any sort of change. well at least its really cold and snowy out, not everything is that bad!

New York finally has a Ubuntu Local Community Team and a forum on the official forum website. Looking forward to seeing this project grow and develop across time.
