first monday back in brooklyn for me and the bub, who has a new name thanks to her cousin- we are very pleased with the new name ( and are not picking on anybody at all by using it, we really like it!) Bubby Bean! So awesome!
since i got terribly distracted while out of town- never realized exactly how important these four to six hours at the daycare are to my studies- i had to redraw my schedule, quite literally. this means that i have had to make some serious boxes of time which are definitely devoted to one particular task, i know that there are some of you out there who are saying, “well it’s about time!” anyways, right now the way it stands, is that squeaker and i will have art and music together in the mornings, then in the afternoon, i have some chunks of heavy studies. then since the sunlight is longer, and the weather is warmer, i have scheduled a hour or hour and a half in the park with the little midget.
so today, we went out to the park on our bike. she loved the bike and didn’t seem to mind the helmet. we found some other kids, and she played with them until they all left. then i mount us onto the bike, and that’s when it hit. the banshee wave roared like a tsunami, there was flailing and helmet throwing as our tired little heroine voiced her displeasure at being forced to abandon the field of play. she screamed so hard she threw up. she tried to break out of the bike seat, and it took us a long time to get home.
then she gave up when i gave up on the helmet, and almost immediately, while i pedaled the rest of the way home, she fell asleep.
little stinker.

the shift in business models brought about by the advent of the internet and the commencement of the digital age is bound to be disruptive.

certainly, i have found little reason thus far to disagree with prof lessig on many grounds, and yet again, i find myself in a position where i can not disagree with his well considered point

a splendid essay with a neutral voice that advocates the current position of linux in today’s market. frankly, this article spells out the areas where linux lags behind microsoft and even points out how this could continue to change over the near future.

looking ahead as i like to do, i seem to agree with the author that the future will sidestep the cellphone and we will be able to make phone calls from devices which are not necessarily phones- at least as soon as i am allowed to buy a Nokia N800!!

a few days ago in a rather longish post, Jucato discussed how he was moving towards coloring the theme of his desktop to be light colors on black, because it is more sci-fi, easier on the eyes, etc. etc. etc. I understand that, and know that what he really wants to do is rock the LCARS theme like i am doing.
this is not the first time i have experimented with light on dark colors for kde and have been greatly satisfied with one major exception. when i do this, standard web pages which do not have a background color specified within their HTML are highly unreadable as Konqueror uses the system colors to display the background. I can use an alternate CSS sheet or an Accessibility stylesheet in order to read these pages, but then i miss out on the wonders of another person’s creativity. it does give me an idea of what it must be like to surf the web under the restrictions of accessibility concerns.
i’d like to be able to make konqueror’s web behavior read webpages with a white background despite the system settings, but that is just me.

yesterday morning, ej and i picked up our suitcase and called a limo to take us to the airport. we checked into our flight quite easily and passed through security without any problems, they allowed her to bring 3 oz of milk in her sippycup, then we waited a few minutes and boarded our first plane which took us to Dulles airport. there we waited two hours for our connecting flight to arrive and finally it showed up from buffalo- where all that springlike snow storm was happening- and we got underway. well, sort of, there was a traffic jam and we waited for half an hour on the runway before we took off.
once we arrived in columbia, after a short nap for her and some reading more me, we were met by GrandDad but not our suitcase. hmmm…. airline promised to deliver it that night but they did not get it to us until nearly lunch today. after we changed clothes finally, we went over to MeeMaw and PapPap’s house for lunch. ej chased the dog around- in fact that is getting to be a theme so far, as there are lots of dogs available for her to chase- and then it became clear that it was nap time. ej had one too.
ej likes to be able to walk around in the yard and kick leaves and it certainly is a relief to be able to just step outside and not have to bundle or hover, i can watch her make her way about pretty loosely as long as i am mindful of the pool, which we started to clean up today. well, started is not really the word- we did some cleaning of it, how’s that?

certainly the best response to date regarding the Kathy Sierra inspired kerfuffle in the ‘blogosphere’. I am greatly pleased that this opinion was written and provides good analysis of our society, or at least analysis that i agree with.

the old lookaway.yesterday was just another day here in EckenrodeHouse, i mean really, just an average wednesday that was slightly less chilly than the preceeding tuesday. so i don’t know what all the fuss is about, unless you are referring to an anniversary of an even that happened two years ago. you know the end of a fifty hour ordeal that resulted in our household gaining a new roommate, and if you think that i am misusing that term then youcertainly do not know her very well at all. she may be only two, but she is so fiercely independent that it makes us wonder just who she takes after!
i bought a cake from a jamaican bakery in the neighborhood and took it to the daycare, along with ten big balloons. then in the afternoon when all the kiddlywinks had woken from their naps and had food and were changed, i reappeared for a party. the workers at Auntie Sharon’s Daycare (not to be confused with my Aunt) had taped all the balloons just out of reach of the kids on the walls. They also covered the little table and had a party all ready for EJ and the kids.
Notice the hats that were on everybody’s head, this was so funny to watch as we were not going to start until everyone of these toddlers was wearing a hat. As soon as one hat was on a head, another one came off and finally there was an impasse in the toddler’s unions that let the hats remain as they sat there looking at the sugar coated cake. Then we all sang a rousing version of Happy Birthday, hopefully the videotape of the party does not get distributed so far as to attract the attention of the [[RIAA]] and forcing us to pay for copyright infringement- but I digress.
If you ever want to know fear, give 14 toddlers a lot of sugar and 10 balloons, then stand in the middle of them as they proceed to make war upon each other. Then the worst happened, my own daughter turned on me and lead the charge as all the balloons were used to bludgeon me. After a about an hour of partying, EJ and I left to go to the playground. As we were slightly underdressed we did not stay long. Then as we settled down at home to watch [[Blue's Clues]] we both passed out as we came off our sugar highs. Mommy laughed at the sight when she came home to see us both sound asleep at sixty-thirty pm!

It is very interesting to see that incumbents are intent on bending the law in order to prevent having to change their business model in response to market changes.

the author has a very wonderful description of his first foray into the world of Ubuntu Linux, including the usage of my favorite desktop, KDE.
