if you are just getting started with learning how to use the GIMP, this is a really good place to check out the basics. If I can not be subtle, I’ll say this “Mom, you should click this link!!”
Where the Love is at!
Google ‘[your name] needs’ and see what comes up. This is what happened when I did it:
Stephanie needs cash fast. (well..who doesn’t?)
Stephanie needs to get the women together in an alliance. (Of course.)
Stephanie needs some help - Look at those pants! (Hey!)
Stephanie needs Midol. (nah.)
Stephanie needs a myspace posse. (nah.)
Stephanie needs a strong manly shoulder to lean on. (Lucky I have one!)
Stephanie needs glasses. (No secret.)
Stephanie needs to find her.(Who? Who?)
Stephanie needs a puppy. (Only to borrow.)
Stephanie needs a sound-proofed home. (That would be nice.)
I have been meaning to write this for a couple of days. EJ has been having drippy nose and a hacking cough lately. Seems like she clears up for a couple of days and then suddenly its all back again. I’m not terribly worried, but am setting up in appointment to get it looked at by the Doctor. But that is not what I’m writing about.
We have reached a couple of landmarks in her development. The first is the result of several visits to the playground. Each of these visits there was another little girl, a different one each time, who had an age appropriate bicycle. EJ filpped out every time the little girl wanted her bike back or would not let EJ ride it. It was so bad that Saturday, the first thing that happened when we arrived on the playground was the bicycle battle. And I mean immediately.
So we packed up, got on the Q train and arrived at Target to look for a bike that she can ride and play on. We found a big, red, plastic bike made by Fisher-Price that converts from a trike to a bike by means of a clever little mechanical trick. EJ loves it, and already expresses great interest in riding it frequently. She is still slightly too small to completely ride it, in other words she is not quite strong enough to pedal it, but she’s determined to get there.
The other milestone was passed last night. It was distinct, and I’m certainly not really pleased with getting to this point.
We have struggled with getting EJ to go to bed lately. It started about a month ago, on Friday nights, when Steph is visiting with her friends, I let the Squeaker fall asleep on our bed. Lately, she will not go to bed, unless it is on our bed, with us. The deal is, if she gets off our bed, I put her in the crib.
Well, last night, I put her in the crib.
She cried.
She screamed.
She cried.
<dull thud>
She cried much louder.
She Screamed much louder.
She beat on the door to her room.
I opened the door and she came rushing out and grabbed my legs, while crying. Yes, that’s right, we have now reached the point where the crib can no longer contain the child. She is quite a climber, and I am not certain if I should be proud of her skill or not. Nevertheless, we are now officially into a new phase.

Last night, I went downtown to the Unigroup to present Ubuntu. I had spent the previous night installing Gutsy Gibbon onto my travel laptop, read the one i was taking down there! I was nervous about the whole projector deal, but then I relaxed when I realized that I was presenting to a group of people who had been using computers as a profession since, well since there was a profession.
My talk was about the perspective of a target case user- and I think taht I fall deeply within that area, even as I begin to slip out the backdoor of participation and increasing knowledge of development. The best part of my talk was being able to explain to these hardened computer whizzes that My Mother runs linux on her computer!
I think it was a good event, i gave away all the Dapper 6.06 LTS CDs that I took, so that makes a whole stack of CDs that I have finally handed out!

….then download SiCKO, by Michael Moore. If you need permission, then watch this clip.
If like me, and yes i will cop to watching it already, you download and watch this movie, or wait until June 29 to see it in the movie theater (or even June 30, although how much longer the healthCare Lobby will allow the Movie Industry to play it is questionable) then you will be hopping up and down and spitting mad.
It’s bad enough that I already am aware that this nation has horrible healthcare, our dentist charges $518 for one filling! But to see how we are the only nation in the Western World which does not have universal healthcare, and where our health care system is ranked 37th in the world.
well, it’s enough to make me want to leave, or overthrow the government or just go completely out of my mind. No, that’s not a multiple choice question.
Anyways, see the movie- even if you don’t download it tonight.

Fistfuls of bacon, morsels of beef, slices of cheddar, and runny fried eggs–that’s what our little girl is made of!
