because i can

Posted by nathan on Mar 27, 2009 in Eckenrode

I set up a new website in order to promote my upcoming album. I also set up a land region for a virtual world and have been developing that as part of my promotions. I’ll keep pointing you over there for updates, but i thought it would be best to separate the two parts of my life like this. Enjoy!

it had to happen

Posted by nathan on Mar 24, 2009 in Eckenrode

Sunday night, around midnight, TheBubster fell out of her bed and landed on her wrist. She was in pain and cried and cried, and cried. I tested and she could not hold a ball but was able to show me where it hurt. She was crying through her tears when she bravely stated, “There’s no blood.”

Monday, we spent the day at the hospital with her doctor and got it x-rayed and the verdict is that the wrist is not broken. Now, it’s just tender and we are waiting for her to heal and feel better. It should be quickly.

Our whole family is incredibly thankful that we have a good healthcare plan and are able to take these precautions and to determine exactly where we are and how to deal with it. We are also thankful that we are able to have one of the parents at home to be able to take care of these emergencies as they arise.

Week in Review

Posted by nathan on Mar 14, 2009 in Eckenrode

Yes I have been very busy this week. We all have, in our own ways. The main task that kept me occupied was a grand reorganization of the house, particularly TheBubster’s room, the living room and my studio. I raised Bubby’s bed another foot and a half so that we could use the entire floor of her room. Now everything feels much more smooth in that space. This also mean that we had to move some stuff that was being hidden under her bed out of there and find new ways to hide it. I also had to get a ladder so that she could get up on the bed. For two nights, TheBubster slept without an easy method to ‘escape’.

I have also moved an old laptop of mine into her space and replaced an even older laptop. Now she plays her computer games like Diego and Dora, or PBS Kids. I also introduced her to Club Penguin, which is a virtual world for kids where everyone is a penguin. The idea is you play games, earn coins and decorate your penguin while making some friends. Of course, there is a parental control to the whole aspect. So I’m happy, she’s happy, we’re all happy.

Here’s a couple more photos of the changes to our home.

Oh by the way, I have completed the technical aspects of recording and releasing an album of music, it should hit stores like iTunes, Amazon, eMusic on or before 25 April 2009. The title is “Dawn of Time” and its under the artistic name of n8k99.

We’re Big in Holland

Posted by nathan on Mar 10, 2009 in Eckenrode

On Friday of the previous week, we all piled into a jetplane and flew overseas to Den Haag. While we were in Adelaide, we had met with one of TheWife’s friends for about an hour as she was passing through that town. The Friend is a big international traveller and works and lives in various places around the world so we were fortunate to meet up with her in Adelaide. In the course of that visit, she mentioned that she’d be in Den Haag for a couple months and that we should come and visit.

So we booked a round-trip flight.

We were going to stay with her in her little apartment but it was apparent to her that a baby, a little girl and a couple would be too much to have in her tiny living room for a week. So, we booked a hotel next to Den Haag Centraal Railway Station. They were having a winter special which made things great for us!

Of course that was not that there was to our visit. We had a couple other friends with whom we were able to visit. TheBubster was able to meet some kids who live there and play with them a couple of times. We ate Stroopwaffles, poffertjes and of course pancakes. TheBubster was silly happy with the amount of pancakes we ate!

We also went sightseeing. We went to Madurodam (pictured above) and Schevinengen; the swimming pool I hung around when I was 16 is now an Aquarium. And of course, we looked at the Escher exhibit at Het Palais. Naturally, I mimicked a very famous Escher print with my mobile while sitting next to that very same print. TheBubster seemed to really enjoy that museum. The next day, she really enjoyed the museum where Vermeer’s Girl with Pearl Earring is displayed, mostly because she had a very personal guided tour by our friend who was quite keen to educate her in all the works of the Dutch Masters. We were happy of course to be able to take in some culture without worrying about chasing a very active and busy little girl.

The Week in which Bud discovers his feet

Posted by nathan on Mar 6, 2009 in Eckenrode

Of course there are photos on our mobile devices but we have only just got back into the country and therefore not gotten around to slurping them into the big publishing machine. There was a nice bit of stuff to talk about but the most important things are when LittleBud discovered completely by accident that he could roll over and that he could hold onto his feet, or more correctly that he had feet. new discoveries are soooo cool!

Anyways, more words and images to follow after I reassemble the new Bugaboo Infant Buggy that we got, and maybe after some sleep as well.
