L’il Bud’s sleep

Posted by steph on Jul 26, 2009 in Eckenrode

raining is going better so far than Bubby’s. I sit in the bed with him, or on the floor next to him, or Nathan plays didg to him and eventually he falls peacefully to sleep.

Mt Kilimanjaro

I have been working on a series of images that involves a great deal of digital pen and ink work. Basically, I am trying to look at places around the world in a way that color is removed or at least shifted completely into values of light and dark. These drawing take time to complete, and are intended as a study to improve my photorealism, awareness of light while allowing me to not deal with composing the image. In someways, I equate this work to playing one of Beethoven’s Sonata’s on the piano, the composition is already there, it is the performer’s prerogative to supply the emotion and power to the piece.

The Parade goes on

Posted by nathan on Jul 19, 2009 in Eckenrode

So it seems that the family just cannot get enough of us this summer. Currently, Dad and my youngest sister are sleeping in the house, but we have taken them out to Indian food on the first night here and Korean food tonight. I have also take Dad out to play some cricket in the park and he has helped build a new bed for TheBubster and we’ll finish by building a bed for Little Bud. Then when they leave, they’ll be taking TheBubster south with them.

*gulp*

What am I going to do without her here?

I guess, I’ll have to deal with it. We will be able to use the time to get Little Bud to sleeping in his own bed, and hopefully it will be a good enough time period for that before TheBubster returns in time for school to start.

In the meantime, there are swimming lessons tomorrow and more building, plus some more schoolwork for me. I hope we can get a little more cricket in with everybody just for fun and hopefully Australia will turn in a record performance to pull the Ashes back from the brink.

Weekend Update

Posted by nathan on Jul 12, 2009 in Eckenrode

This week Pap Pap arrived with the Tall Ships and right behind him was Oma. We were treated to a day or two their lovely company. TheBubster also got to go onto her first sea going vessel and fell head over heels in love. Who knows how far and deep that emotion will go, maybe all the way around the world like this Aussie lass. Or maybe she’ll just like pictures of them. I was pleased to see that the ship was the same Dutch registered Bark Europa that I had considered sailing on way back in 2001.

Yesterday, I went to Northeastern University to investigate further education options then in the afternoon went out to Winthrop Island to met a friend from New York and his daughter. TheBubster and Panda were fast friends and by the time we left a genuine bond had formed. It will be fun to see them again in the future.

Car Owners

In order to facilitate the transportation of the family’s breadwinner between the familial estate and the employment center, we have purchased an automobile. In order to facilitate the transportation of the family’s breadwinner between the familial estate and the employment center, we have purchased an automobile. Ours looks just like that one, only more like ours. The process to acquire our new chariot was quite easy but still annoying, especially as this means that weI can no longer feel superior to all the little people who have to have a car to survive. Le Sigh! At least, I can still sustain my life by eating only cake.

In completely unrelatedness, we had a phone call from an Insurance type person who was asking questions about visits to the Doctor, and by flipping through the archive here, I was able to answer the questions with pretty good recall. Thankfully, I have been using this as sort of a ‘paper of record’ for us so I guess that this paragraph is not unrelated to the first paragraph. Now did I just get really metaphysical?

Only Heaven Knows that for certain.

Nana’s visit was a huge success. Mom and Dad got a night out to celebrate the illustrious anniversary and the kids got to have a blast with their grandmother. TheBubster was especially hard hit emotionally when time to drop Nana off at the airport came around. She cried all the way home and we had to get ice cream to convince her that we still love her. Ok I exaggerate a little bit about the ice cream bribery. I would never bribe my child with ice cream, unless it was to get her to eat all her vegetables.
