Where the Love is at!

Nations that don’t like us very much

According to John McCain in his acceptance speech at the Republican Convention, we sent $700 billion to countries that “don’t like us very much” last year to import oil. Yet, according to the Energy Information Agency the US only imported 4.9 billion barrels of oil, which at today’s prices is only $536 billion. That’s $536 billion for all the oil that we import, not just to nations that don’t like us very much.

One third of that money goes to three countries.

  1. Canada
  2. Mexico
  3. the United Kingdom

Forgiving McCain’s error in arithmetic for a moment (but who would not like to have an extra $164 billion laying around their seven houses) after all he has admitted that “economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should”, he is supposed to be an expert in Foreign Policy. I just recently had a class in International Relations, which is about as much knowledge as I will purport to possess in this area. McCain is either making an admission that there are no countries in the world who actually like us, and after that last eight years of Republican lead Washington, can you blame them? or he is just as confused about this area as his economics demonstrate.

Canada, Mexico and The United Kingdom are some of our closest allies both politically and geographically. It is without any reservation that I will call a pig a pig and say that McCain’s statement, “We are going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don’t like us very much.” is a LIE.

  • If only George Bush had started the initiative on renewal energy, we wouldn't be in this predicament. By the way we still owe China 1 Trillion. There's no way US can shut them out by terminating their imports, which includes tainted lead products and melamine food.
  • John McCain's argument is a little bit flawed. There are so much designated oil drilling sites that have been bought up by oil companies and they're not even drilling them causing oil prices to rocket.
  • Bush was not even offered a handshake in the G20 reception. What a joke.
  • China hates US alright. They do have problems with the toy products such as lead properties. The US crisis as caused thousands of manufacturing companies to be closed in Guang Zhou to be closed every day.
  • If this news is true, there must be so many unemployment right now. What a sad reality it is, they must take action before it getting worse.
  • I'm kind of sympathetic to the fact that John McCain didn't win. Though most of the Democrats have linked McCain and George Bush together, we must give John the benefit of doubt that it was not the cabinet he selected. It was only George Bush's fault. I must say John happened to contest in the wrong time. Had the Americans given him the opportunity previously against George Bush, we might have seen a different America. It's hard for me to envision it being as worse as it is now.
  • That's a discussion which is completely based upon presumption and i do not wish to deal with what could have been or should have been because to do so would continue down the track we are currently on. Now is the time to look at where we really at and make adjustments according to a more humble approach to the world.

  • If the leader have no vision, the people will perish.
  • Obama has brought United States back on track. The hatred has been forgotten almost immediately and everybody's looking forward to see Obama visit their countries.
  • Just think what would have happened if he did win. Another Bush is going to lead the country,
  • China hates US alright. They do have problems with the toy products such as lead properties. The US crisis as caused thousands of manufacturing companies to be closed in Guang Zhou to be closed every day.

How can a confusing leader lead its nation? Thankfully, McCain did not win.
